Editorial standards
The rules we follow when we decide what goes on this site, what it says, and what comes off it.
We only publish what we can source
A listing shows the facts we hold and leaves the rest blank. We do not write descriptions for businesses, guess opening hours, or invent ratings or reviews. If a profile has no hours, it is because we do not have them, and the owner can claim the listing to add them.
How businesses get listed
- Most listings come from OpenStreetMap, and each profile links to its map record.
- Anyone can tell us about a missing or out-of-date business through the contact form. A person reviews each one.
- When the same business is listed twice, we merge the two and keep one page.
- A business that has closed for good is taken off the site. One that is temporarily closed is hidden until it reopens.
How events get listed
- Events come from published city and organizer calendars, or from submissions a person approves. Imported events link to the official listing, which is the place to check for last-minute changes.
- We label an event “Kids” or “Family” only when the organizer says so, for example with an age range. We do not guess who an event is for.
- After a one-time event has taken place, its page says so. A few months later the page is removed. Recurring events keep their page.
Sponsored content is always labeled
Advertisers can pay for a labeled placement, a sponsored guide or a sponsored event. They cannot pay to rank higher in a category or in search, and they cannot buy a place in community resources. A sponsored guide says so at the top and explains the business relationship, and its links to the sponsor are marked as sponsored for search engines. The details are on the advertise page.
Guides
We write guides from official and primary sources, which each guide names. A guide shows when it was published and when it was last updated, and when the facts change we update both the guide and the date.
Photos
Every photo is credited. Most are licensed for reuse, and the licenses are listed on the credits page. A photo of a venue is labeled as the venue, never passed off as a picture of the event. Google Maps photos carry their photographers’ names.
News
The news page links to other outlets’ reporting with the headline and the outlet’s name. We do not copy or rewrite their articles.
