Credits and licences
Almost nothing on this site was made from nothing. These are the photographers and the public bodies whose work it is built on, and the licence each piece is used under.
This page is not a courtesy. The photographs below are used under Creative Commons licences that require the creator to be named and the licence to be linked. Printing that here is the condition on which we are allowed to use them at all.
Photographs
Every photograph on this site is Creative Commons Attribution or public domain, sourced from Wikimedia Commons. None is share-alike, and that was a filter rather than luck — share-alike asks adaptations to carry the same licence, and this site sells advertising.
Each is resized and re-encoded to WebP. No crops are baked in: tiles crop with CSS, which is display rather than a derivative. Where an image was altered beyond that, it says so.
| Photograph | By | Licence | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Beach and palms — the homepage header | Don Ramey Logan | CC BY 4.0 | Wikimedia Commons |
| Mizner Park — the Restaurants tile | Infrogmation of New Orleans | CC BY 3.0 | Wikimedia Commons |
| Gumbo Limbo boardwalk — the Events tile | Infrogmation of New Orleans | CC BY 3.0 | Wikimedia Commons |
| Looking south along the beach — the Things To Do tile | Juliancolton | Public domain | Wikimedia Commons |
| Shopfronts — the Businesses tile | pasa47 | CC BY 2.0 | Wikimedia Commons |
| The city from the air — the Community tile | Don Ramey Logan | CC BY 4.0 | Wikimedia Commons |
| Boca at night across the water — the News tile Brightened when encoded (+62% luminance, slight contrast and saturation trim); the original renders as a near-black rectangle at this size. No crop and no compositing. | Don Ramey Logan | CC BY 4.0 | Wikimedia Commons |
| The Boca Raton Resort | Quintin Soloviev | CC BY 4.0 | Wikimedia Commons |
| Retired illustration, no longer used on any page Retired 2026-08-12 and referenced by no page. The file is kept because deleting assets is a one-way door; it was never captioned as a photograph of a real place. | Generated illustration, not a photograph of anywhere | Public domain | Wikimedia Commons |
What these licences allow, and what they ask
Creative Commons Attribution permits commercial use and adaptation, which is why this site can carry advertising on the same page as the photographs. It asks that we credit the photographer, name the licence and link to it, and that we not suggest the photographer endorses this site. They do not. Public-domain images ask nothing; the credit is there because it is right, not because it is owed.
Data
Where the listings on this site come from, and the terms each source is used under.
- OpenStreetMap — ODbL 1.0
- The backbone of the business and place directory. Attribution and share-alike. The credit in the site footer is a condition of the licence, which is why it renders on every page unconditionally rather than only where a map appears.
- City of Boca Raton
- Municipal service listings, and the events calendar feed. Public records of a Florida municipality, published by the city for public use. Reproduced here with the city named as the source; the city’s own website is always the official version.
- Boca Raton Community Redevelopment Agency
- Downtown events, from the agency’s published calendar. Public records of a Florida public agency, from a calendar the agency publishes for syndication.
- Local newsrooms
- Headlines in the News section. Headlines and links only. No article text, no photographs and no excerpts are stored or shown, every headline links to the publisher’s own page, and each source’s robots.txt is honoured before anything is fetched.
A note on the news section
The News section stores a headline, a link and a publication date. It does not store or display article text, excerpts or photographs, every headline links to the publisher’s own page, and each source’s robots.txt is read and obeyed before anything is fetched. The reporting belongs to the newsrooms that did it and the traffic should go to them.
If a credit here is wrong
If you took one of these photographs and the attribution is wrong, incomplete, or you would rather it were not used here at all, tell us and we will correct or remove it. That is not a formal process — see copyright and DMCA if you would prefer one, but a message is enough and is faster.
