Parking in Boca Raton

Where it is free, where it is not, why a beach permit is useless at a meter, and how to tell a real parking ticket from the fake ones being mailed out.

Boca Raton has three separate parking systems that do not talk to each other, and most of the trouble people have here comes from assuming they are one.

The three systems

Beach park gatehouses. You need an annual beach permit or you pay the daily rate at the gate. Covered in the beaches guide.

City parking meters. Metered on-street spaces around downtown and near the beach. Paid per use, by anybody, resident or not.

Mizner Park. Largely free, and the exception that makes the rest worth learning.

A beach permit does not work at a meter. It is the single most common mistake, the city states it outright on its own permit page, and the ticket is real.

Mizner Park, and the free spaces people miss

Mizner Park is the easiest place to park in this town, and it gets easier if you know where the overflow is. The city points visitors at two free lots a short walk from the amphitheater:

  • Downtown Library — 400 SW 2nd
  • City Hall — 201 W Palmetto Park Road

On concert nights there is also paid preferred parking beside the amphitheater and at the church behind it, and paid valet at several points around Mizner Park. If you are going to a show and would rather walk five minutes than pay, the two lots above are the answer.

If you get a ticket, check it is real

The city has warned that fraudulent parking tickets are being mailed out asking for payment. This is worth knowing before one lands.

A real City of Boca Raton citation is one of a small set of fixed amounts, and always carries the city's contact details. The city publishes the current list of valid fine amounts on its parking citations page, along with a ticket search to verify a citation number. You can also confirm one by calling 561-367-7048.

If a ticket looks wrong, do not pay it. Verify it first and report it to the city if it is fake.

Revision history

September 2026 — First published.

We record when a guide was published and when it was last revised. We do not yet record what changed, so this is a dating record rather than a changelog.

How guides are written

Written and checked by a person, and carrying the month they were published and the month they were last revised. Where a rule or a fee applies we link the official source rather than quoting a number that will go stale.

Something out of date?

A fee that has changed, a link that has moved, an answer that is no longer right — tell us and we will check it and say we did.
